3) poems

We’ve been running workshops in local schools to gather ideas and inspiration for the project.

Here are some the poems we’ve made with local school children.

POEM 1:

CONSULTATION EXERCISE

What do we want in our Adventure Playground?
Well!!

Can there be a seesaw that seesaws and spins around and bounces up and down –
A spinny pounder – an up down and around and rounder –
And please make it  electric so it goes one hundred miles an hour.

PLEASE  PLEASE PLEASE

Can there be a virtual reality obstacle course –
Something like a car seat and you can seer something in front of you like a little screen?
Can there be obstacles on a roundabout please that you have to jump over?

Oh, and we need a soft foam carpet in case you fall off.

Will it be truly playful Can it send us all speechless?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

Can it smell of strawberries,
You know, of fruit and stuff
Like those Airwick sort of things?
As you pass it can you stop and all sorts of food and drink come out?

But no roses please because my mum’s allergic.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

Make it an I-don’t-want-to-leave-I-want-to-go-back-again-place please
And can it have a great big tail that shakes and you have to hold on?
Make it a Mindbreaker – able to help you out of the very worst mood.

Can it be fun for everyone?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

Whatever age you should enjoy it even if you’re 100 like miss
Or even as old as Doctor Who

Can there be a blue box leading to an underground slide
With a whole earth that you can climb up?

Yes – a blue box with kind of like a floor and it undoes and its eternal and you go through to some virtual thing and there’s an obstacle course. And then it brings you out into another blue box and it’s the end.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

Can we have mythical animals
A dinosaur, some three headed
Dogs, dragons of course,
maybe a minotaur?

Can it be absolutely fabitastic
Utterly fabulilious?
The original amuser? A unique astonisher?
Can it be like that, please?
PLEASE! PLEASE!! PLEASE!!!!!!!

POEM 2

We’re going to Grasslands,
The wizzy Wisbech spinney
Jast pass your house then left right left
And back to the beginning
Two people or more and a dog
Racing – Imagining

In our backpacks a hearty picnic of
Giant cake and chips, hundred slice sandwiches.
Enormous fruit of course
To sustain us through the treacherous   (ooerrr!!)

We’re adventuring in Grasslands
A skullsplitter of a great idea
But now – the Demon Drop Slide!
The menacing is here                             (aaaagghhh)

We’re going to Grasslands,
The wizzy Wisbech spinney
Jast pass your house then left right left
And back to the beginning
Two people or more and a dog
Bridging – Carouselling

Escape – escape down the
Slope of slither
The curlywurly freedom giver  (wwiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii)

Sit quiet on the bench
In a treehouse of friends
With a lovely lion
Get your breath back            (aaaaaaaaahhhhhh)

Then time again to flee,
Clamber through the jungle trees
To a vasedropping dive
Into a pool of custard           (kerSPLATTTTTTT)
(clovershaped of course)
How cool is that!

We’re going to Grasslands,
The wizzy Wisbech spinney
Jast pass your house then left right left
And back to the beginning
Two people or more and a dog
Discovering  – Imagining

We scramble out, drip over the bridge
Then suddenly lose our hold and – drop.            (aaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii)
Lost in the dark in a network of tunnels
But look! Over the there: the glint of gold!      (yaaaayyyy)

We’re going to Grasslands,
The wizzy Wisbech spinney
Jast pass your house then left right left
And back to the beginning
Two people or more and a dog
Adventuring – Discovering treasure
A day stuffed full of pleasure

POEM 3:

A GREAT PLAYFUL DAY
THE WISBECH WAY
WOOP WOOP
ADVENTURES IN PLAY

When you see something you want  to buy and your mum don’t go “mnnnnnnn”

When the waves go massive and you bash into someone
And you can’t get up till just in time

When you’re having a laugh chucking apples at the boys on the Astroturf

When you get hyper and the teachers tell you off

When you’re singing and eating chocolate éclairs…

A GREAT PLAYFUL DAY
THE WISBECH WAY
WOOP WOOP
ADVENTURES IN PLAY

When you get out of a math’s test, a science test – ANY TEST

When you’re cutting your best friend’s hair

When you’re at the club cooking pizza then after you’ve done it you go and play football

When you’re playing basket ball in the garden, hoop on the wall,
With your sister and good friends come around

When you cleared 3 ft 6 last Saturday
- smiles all round.

A GREAT PLAYFUL DAY
THE WISBECH WAY
WOOP WOOP
ADVENTURES IN PLAY

When you score a goal from hehind the halfway line – woooooo

When you take the best ride in town: a Tesco trolley

When you run down the aisle and skid round the end and speed off and jump on the handle and let the trolley take you along

When you get to the park and go hyper
And get moaned at by a hiker

When you score THREE goals – that feels good

When the adrenalin rush of football pours through you
like lava spewing out of a volcano
The lava like syrup treacling down
As the football bounces around
But as you hit the ball
And it hits against the wall
You know you have scored
Because of the almighty roars

A GREAT PLAYFUL DAY
THE WISBECH WAY
WOOP WOOP
ADVENTURES IN PLAY

When you had a barbecue for your birthday
And it was very fun and you loved it.

When you slept at your friend’s house
(Hope she doesn’t push you in the pool again.)

When you had a BBQ for your brother’s birthday and he fell in your hot tub
BBQs make you feel great

A GREAT PLAYFUL DAY
THE WISBECH WAY
WOOP WOOP
ADVENTURES IN PLAY

When your footy team winning the fair play award
Makes you feel no longer bored
When you find out you have a horse
Show
When your thoughts really flow
When Hungate go to David Beckham Academy –
It’s gonna be great!

A GREAT PLAYFUL DAY
THE WISBECH WAY
WOOP WOOP
ADVENTURES IN PLAY

Going to the beach – makes you excited
Having TV time to yourself – watching Disney Channel

Running across the court laughing with your friends, the ball flies into the net – YESSS!!

Woop woop
You had a waterfight today
It was freezing but funny

You have a great day because you’re singing all day, it makes you so happy

A GREAT PLAYFUL DAY
THE WISBECH WAY
WOOP WOOP
ADVENTURES IN PLAY
WOOP WOOP
ADVENTURES IN PLAY
WOOP WOOP
ADVENTURES IN PLAY
WOOP WOOP

POEM 4

US TIME

Riding my quad up and down the street.
Playing with my dog
Who likes to bat the ball
If you bounce it on the ground.
Racing so fast on my bike
More determined than usual.
Spending time doing stuff
That others want me to do
So I can spend a bit of Me Time

Spending Me Time in Wisbech
You Time, Us Time, time with friends,
Olden times and golden times
Times that good we want to do it all again

I feel happy being with my family
Buying new clothes that are in fashion, in season,
Feeling lucky and proud.
Scoring the winning try in the final of the rugby
Makes me feel so good.
With my dog chasing her tail,
Chasing after shadows
And if you talk to her
She barks back

I was so happy and excited, proud,
Glad, safe, confident
When I was playing volleyball
And our teams got into the
County Championships.

Spending Me Time in Wisbech
You Time, Us Time, time with friends,
Olden times and golden times
Times that good we want to do it all again

In my day long ago
We played Six Million Dollar Man
Running in slow motion
And ‘What’s the time Mister Wolf’ –
All you needed was a wall.

Dad was in an orphanage.
He liked escaping through the fence.
He went to the shipyards and muddled stuff up
Then they welded the fence back up
But he still broke through.

Spending Me Time in Wisbech
You Time, Us Time, time with friends,
Olden times and golden times
Times that good we want to do it all again

When I went to Mepal
I jumped off the boat and the water was cold
And when it was snowing
I put my bike against the snowman
And made an igloo out of it

Remembering the Peter Pan play area in Hyde Park
When I was six and would go there with my cousin
And play in the pirate ship.

I was in the forest chasing my brother,
Then suddenly he disappeared.
I looked round and round – I could hear him calling me.
Then I looked up…

Dad told his mates there were ghosts in the Crem.
He tied a piece of cloth to a length of string to scare them.
Dad was in stitches.

Mum dug a hole in the ground and disguised it
With grass and wood then they climbed inside to play

I got 100% attendance for going on the school trip
Then 100% lost running away from David Smith

Spending Me Time in Wisbech
You Time, Us Time, time with friends,
Olden times and golden times
Times that good we want to do it all again

I’m on the phone
Catching up on all the gossip
In my room
So mum and dad won’t hear us

When I jumped off my bike
When the brakes went bust,
It was the quickest thing I ever did.
I didn’t think about it – I just did it.

When I was most at peace I was
Sat under a tree and reading
With the leaves sheltering me from the sun.

Spending Me Time in Wisbech
You Time, Us Time, time with friends,
Olden times and golden times
Times that good we want to do it all again
